Victoria Heritage Foundation: This Old House: Victoria's Heritage Neighbourhoods
This 4 volume series describes the social and architectural history of Victoria's more than 600 registered, designated and covenanted heritage properties. Volume 1 (Fernwood and Victoria West) was published in 2004, Volume 2 (James Bay) was published in 2005. Both of these volumes have been local best sellers. Volume 3 (Rockland, Burnside, Hillside/Quadra, and North Park) was published September 2007 and is another local best seller. Volume 4 (Fairfield, Jubilee, Gonzales) will be published in September 2009.
I established correct construction dates for most of these properties using tax assessment rolls and researched owners and residents of these properties using sources at BC Archives, City of Victoria Archives, University of Victoria, and the Internet. I compiled this information and wrote the social histories in This Old House: Victoria's Heritage Neighbourhoods.
Donald Luxton & Associates, Ltd (Heritage Consultants): Saanich Heritage Structures: An Inventory
This book was published in 2008 and contains and extensive update of Saanich's Heritage Inventory (first published in 1990), with over 200 buildings covering 12 neighbourhoods. I researched first owners and early residents of these properties, using various resources and also contributed to the writing and editing.
Jennifer Barr, Heritage Consultant for the City of Victoria: Canada's Historic Places Initiative
I researched 18 houses and wrote two Statements of Significance (SOS's) for Canada's Historic Places Initiative, a program developed by the Canadian Federal Government to illustrate the variety and importance of Canada's many historically valuable sites to Canadian culture. This is an ongoing project.
Hallmark Society: Streetscapes of Victoria
This was a photo documentation project documented every structure, streetscape and landscape feature in three of Victoria's neighbourhoods: Gonzales, Fairfield and Rockland. The results were eventually presented to the public.
I researched basic construction dates and original owner information on over 500 buildings in the Fairfield and Gonzales neighbourhoods.
